PERTISA AWARD at Hongkod Koisaan 6.12.2008
Though the first time it was successfully organized in terms of attendance: around 40 ten seater tables tickets sold. The award reciepient was generally worthy but the highly obvious joke was the "Anugerah Penyanyi Lelaki Paling Popular" won by Joseph Majakui. I know him being a good singer but he is only featured once in a while in the Kadazan language broadcast thus not good enough. Did he " bought thousands of New Sabah Times from its printer filled and send the vote forms" as alleged? That was the talk spreading around the tables that night. However I don,t blame Joe. Or is it due to the unprofessional method Pertisa used depending only on newspaper vote coupons as uncomprehensive? The standard and professional gauge should have been the data derived from publishers and distributor sales, RTM and Suria broadcast and or plus web votes. Did they know that Atama's "My Tribal Roots" sold 40,000 copies and won acclaim worldwide? Did Pertisa know that it was featured in the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Radio broadcast to name a few? Ask Mohd Khairy of New Sabah Times.
The rest however is ok: Easther Appolonius, "Ampal", Azmin Mudin, "Orang Kita", Abubakar Ellah and John Gaisah. I hope next year Pertisa would engage as many professionals as possible (including non members and broadcast sector) in its committee to decide on worthy reciepients. Don't forget "orang Lama" contributions: Justin Stimol, Pat Micheal, MY Ismail, Peter Pragas and others.

This is very interesting..It shows how inexperienced the organizer can be or dumb?? “Wrong award goes to wrong person” if this attitude continues.. Sabahan music industry & artist will just remain as “jaguh kampong”. ATAMA has brought this industries to a certain level.. Believe it or not..
